Reclaiming Life, One Story at a Time

Sunday, July 19, 2026 - Ghosting His Kids

The weekend following Typhon's antics at the Girl Scout camp was my custodial weekend with the kids. The following week (July 20-24), though, was one of Typhon's designated summer weeks with the kids. Because we both work, I have always agreed to do the exchange on Sunday evening even though the summer week doesn't technically start until 8 am on Monday morning. Makes sense, right?

As part of the Custody Agreement, Typhon insists that I have to do all custody exchanges myself. He did this because he know that, as an attorney, I often work late and, if there is a Friday night court filing, I'm sometimes not done with work until 10 pm or later. It would be hugely inconvenient for me to have to take 2 hours off in the middle of exactly when I would need to be finalizing a filing to drive to our exchange location and back. But, then again, that's Typhon's sole purpose in life now - to make things as inconvenient for me as possible.

Anyway, I had a major surgery on my right ankle on July 13, and I still couldn't as of Sunday, July 19th. Thus, I had to have my mother drive to the custody exchange. But, because of Typhon's stupid requirement that I do all custody exchanges myself, I had to go too.

Huck was the only kid excited to spend the week with their dad. Ramona, unsurprisingly, wanted nothing to do with him. Since both me and my mom had to go to the exchange, though, poor Ramona was forced to tag along. Ursula had told the sheriff deputies on Friday that she was going that week, but she started not feeling well and changed her mind. Since Typhon doesn't believe a word I say about anything, I told Ursula that she had to tell him herself that she wasn't going. Plus, since so many things have been lost in translation when I've asked her to text or email him, I told her she needed to tell him in person. Peter had also told the deputies on Friday that he was going to go, but he no longer wanted to. The difference between him and Ursula, though, is that Peter is too much of a people pleaser and when I told him he'd have to tell Typhon to his face that he wasn't going, Peter backed down immediately and decided to go.

So all 6 of us -- me, the 4 kids, and my mom/chauffeur for the night -- drove an hour to the exchange location, which is about halfway between Typhon's house and mine. Ursula (and maybe one of the boys) texted Typhon when we left the house to let him know we were on our way. Then she texted him when we were 10 minutes out. Then she texted him when we got there. Absolute silence on his end.

We waited for about an hour, with the three big kids all taking turns every 10-15 minutes trying to call, text or email him. Nothing. We were waiting at a Sheetz, behind which there's this cute little ice cream truck. So, after the first hour, Molly and I treated the kids to ice cream. We took our sweet time, and somehow we managed to squeeze another hour out of it.

By the time all was said and done, we waited at the Sheetz / ice cream truck for about 2 hours 15 minutes for Typhon to show up to pick up his kids. He never did.

After taking some pictures of the kids in front of the ice cream truck (both for the memory and the time stamp to verify I was there as required) and sending Typhon an email informing him I had waited for over 2 hours, we finally decided we were probably okay to go home. We wanted to make sure we could say we did everything we could on our end in case he tried to call the sheriff and accuse me of child abduction (again).

In the end, though, it didn't matter. Typhon didn't try anything that night. In fact, he didn't respond to any of the kids' texts, phone calls, or emails all week. How crazy is that? He built up that week for months leading up to it, then he just ghosted his kids? Who does that?!? Especially after trying so hard to convince the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office just 2 days earlier that all he wanted was to see his kids?!? It makes absolutely no sense to me.

It's a good thing I gave up trying to figure out how this man's mind works a long time ago, otherwise I'd probably be crazy myself by now.
